Maintaining a well-maintained surface extends the life of your tennis court and ensures it is safe to play on. A few simple routines can keep your Tennis Court Maintenance looking and playing its best.
Regularly remove accumulated debris such as leaves, pine needles, and other organic material. This material acts like sandpaper under shoes and can cause premature wear of the court surface coatings. Keep walkways leading to the court free of debris as well. Ensure that players are wearing non-marking shoes and that no chewing gum, food or drinks (other than water) are being used on the court. This can damage the surface coatings and lead to abrasion.
The Importance of Regular Tennis Court Cleaning
Keep the court clean of fungus, mold, and mildew. Mold and mildew typically appear in shady areas of the court and need to be addressed before they spread to the rest of the court. Mildew and mold can be scrubbed off the court with a mild combination of 2 parts household bleach to 1 part water.
Inspect and repair cracks in the surface coating. When left unattended cracks allow water to penetrate the court’s subbase and can result in more cracking and eventual failure of the base. Inspect and repair any low spots or depressions in the court, filling them with clay material as needed.
Ensure that the drainage system is functioning correctly. A well-functioning drainage system minimizes moisture build-up on the surface and helps prevent weed growth, mold, mildew, and other problems that can be caused by excess moisture. Inspect drains regularly to ensure they are clear and not clogged with debris.
